 Dundee is one of Scotland's larger cities and lies in a beautiful location on the east coast on the north shore of the Tay estuary. It is a vibrant town undergoing a rennaisance recently after some disasterous planning decisions in the 60's and 70's. The town has a lot of new architecture and public buildings that are cutting edge.
Dundee has loads of things to do in it with a long maritime and industrial history. The town is also synonymous with sport hosting two SPL football teams and countless other sporting teams including rugby, ice hockey, hockey and others.
As a nod to Dundee's maritime history both Captain Scott's ship Discovery and the frigate Unicorn are berthed in Dundee and open to visitors. Discovery has a large visitor centre well worth a visit.
The history of the area is covered well in the Mcmanus Art Gallery and Museum. Verdant works is a hands on interactive museum covering Dundee's industrial heritage.
If your interest lies in the Arts, Dundee has lots of things to do. Dundee Contemporary Arts is a very busy centre with film, exhibitions, events, courses, restaurants and more.
For sporting things to do in Dundee, the Football stadia of Tannadice and Dens Park lie right beside each other and host Dundee FC and Dundee United FC. Both teams have a passionate following in the town.
Dundee Stars are Dundee's main ice hockey team.
Dundee's parks are excellent and varied. Camperdown Park is a large country house style park with golf, great playparks and a zoo.
A walk or drive to Dundee's high point - Dundee Law offers some amazing views over the city and beyond across Fife, Perthshire and Angus.
Getting back to the seaside, a visit to Broughty Ferry is a must. With a good beach, a castle, an amazing kids playpark and good cafe's, ice cream parlour's and resturants, the Ferry is a big hit with Families visiting Dundee and looking for something to do.
Dundee's town centre has undergone big changes in recent years with large scale pedestrianisation and two excellent refurbished shopping centres. This keeps the city centre vibrant and amongst all the shops there are often some kind of street activities or entertainments going on in Caird Square right in the centre.
