Zoos & Animal Parks in Scotland

Bison grazingWith a recent report stating that visitor numbers are up at some of Scotlands zoos, it is a great time to take the family for a day out at a Scottish zoo. Scotland has a number of zoo facilities ranging from the large Edinburgh Zoo to small rare breeds parks and open farms. Here are a few of Scotland's zoos and animal parks.

Some of Scotland's Zoos:

Edinburgh Zoo

Probably the widest range of species in any of the main animal parks of Scotland, Edinburgh zoo really does make for a great day out, even in the depths of winter there is loads to see at the zoo in Edinburgh. All the big animals you would expect at a large city zoo are here and the kids love it.

Blair Drummond Safari Park

Open through the summer months, Blair Drummond is a great family day out. At the time of visiting the sea lion show was probably the main attraction but with all the large animals, rides and playparks there is a lot to choose from.

Highland Wildlife Park

Between Kingussie and Aviemore the Highland Wildlife Park is a combined safari/enclosure animal park. Visitors can choose to drive round a natural habitat safari road to spot some of the breeds here before parking up and visiting a number of native original species and newer large breeds from overseas.

Camperdown Zoo

Camperdown has long been synonymous for it's Bears and they are there in a considerably improved enclosure to the one they had a number of years ago. THere's plenty of up-close viewing of animals with some family favourites like lemurs.

Auchingarrich Wildlife Park

Just south of Comrie, Perthshire is a spectacular spot filled with a large number of species including meerkats, ostrich and others. Great views across Strathearn from here.
